So you’ve found you have a lot of values. And now you’re wondering how to select which values are core to you.
Here’s a way … Look for values that include other values: e.g. one client had loyalty, appreciation, acknowledgement and recognition included under ‘BELONGING’. This way you integrate all the values.
To help differentiate between values and beliefs ask yourself “is this something I aspire to, aim to be like? OR is this something I consider to be true and act accordingly?” The first is a value, the second is a belief.
To help differentiate between values and needs, notice how you speak about them. For values, typically the tone is positive, uplifting and with energy. For needs, generally the tone shows little enthusiasm/joy (ie lackluster) and imbalanced longing.
